Maple Neck
Why do some of the wooden parts that are maple grow darker in colour over time?
like when you buy a new guitar with a maple neck and then 20-30 years later the light tan maple is now a dark orangy tan?
alot of that is from it being rubbed and basicaly “buffed” with your hands. Alot of it is skin oil! All wood does become deeper in colour as it ages but in this case it is more so the fact that it is being handled. There is a handrailing at a lumber yard where I used to work. It is about 50 years old and is outside so you get people with dirty hands rubbing along it all the time. It is super shiny and very dark in color – same thing as your guitar.
